2010 Bilancia La Collina Syrah

Tasting: La Collina originates from the company’s steep, early-ripening vineyard situated on the northern slopes of Roy’s Hill, which overlooks the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke’s Bay. This Syrah is co-fermented with Viognier skins, contributing a subtle Viognier component to the final blend. Following this, it undergoes maturation for up to 22 months in new French oak barriques, carefully selected for their ‘low-impact’ influence.

Regarded as a majestic red, La Collina stands among the finest Syrahs produced in the country. The 2010 vintage, rated with 5 stars, exhibits a finely poised character. Maturing entirely in new oak barrels, it boasts a dense color, displaying power and intense sweetness in its fruit profile. Plum, liquorice, and spice flavors dominate, showcasing exceptional concentration. The wine culminates with a well-rounded finish. Although already approachable, this vintage is anticipated to age gracefully over the next 20 years.
