Whisson Lake Monopole The Old Garden Pinot Noir 2012

Tasting: Rarely do we encounter mature Australian pinot on wine lists, making the presence of older vintages a delightful surprise, adding depth and allure. The 2012 vintage, a classic, presents a charming blend of brooding scents like dark cherry, wet earth, blood plum, and dried rose petals. Its palate is indulgently rich, layered with primary fruit notes intertwined with spicy tobacco and a savory, tannic grip. The refined length and appealing acidity suggest plenty of aging potential. Crafted from 100% de-stemmed fruit and 5% new French Oak, it exudes aromas of Satsuma plum, ripe cherry, and a hint of peppercorn. With a tight structure, subtle yet firm tannins, and cranberry-like acidity, it offers a lengthy, savory, and pure finish. While still youthful, decanting or cellaring for 3-5 years is advised for optimal enjoyment.
