Grant Burge ‘Meshach’ Shiraz 2012

Tasting: Grant Burge Meshach, our acclaimed flagship Shiraz, is exclusively released in vintages of exceptional quality, meticulously handpicked from nearly century-old vines in the renowned Barossa Valley. The fruit sourced for this wine boasts remarkable concentration and intensity, resulting in a powerful yet exquisitely balanced expression. Winemaking for grapes from such venerable vines adheres to a straightforward approach. Following crushing, the grapes undergo inoculation with yeast and are left in open fermenters for 8 to 10 days, under vigilant supervision. Gentle pump-overs occur 2-3 times daily initially, with reduced frequency as fermentation progresses, aimed at tempering tannin extraction and preserving harmony. Upon completion of fermentation on skins, the wines undergo a gentle basket pressing and settle for 24 hours. Subsequently, they are transferred to a combination of French and American oak for 21 months of maturation before bottling.

This is followed by a further 3 years of bottle maturation prior to release.  The iconic 2012 Meshach epitomizes a truly distinctive expression from an exceptional vintage. The palate is textured and generously flavored, featuring notes of dark chocolate intertwined with ripe red berries, spices, and earthy nuances. Supple yet structured tannins provide a robust foundation, imparting exceptional length and structure to the wine.
