Wine News

My fascination with the geographical wine regions of Australia continues with my focus turning to the Orange region of NSW.

A lot of people don’t really know to much about this area. So I have been investigating it for you with extensive product testing. There are about 50 wineries in the region, but we will concentrate on four towns: Orange, Molong, Canowindra and Mandurama.

The main grape varieties in this region are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and some small amounts of Pinot Noir.

The region has been growing grapes for over 100 years but has really only come to the forefront in the last 30 years, with wineries like Angulong and Printhie winning trophies for their Savignon Blanc in 2008 and 2009. Other famous wineries in the area are Phillip Shaw Wines with his beautiful Pinot Noir, Bloodwood and their Cabernet Sauvignon, Rolling & Climbing Wines, and my favourite winery, Brangayne of Orange with their unbelievable Chardonnays.

When you consider how close these regions are to Sydney it is worth having a weekend up in the hills. If you can’t make it to Orange, stop instore and I will show you the region with the wines we have.

Under the NSW Liquor Act 2007 it is against the law to sell or supply alcohol to, or to obtain alcohol on behalf of, a person under the age of 18 years.
